You'll gain the ability to easily see how many times each archive has
been downloaded (if you can't already).

Yes.
They are quite open about problems they are having with both a status
page and open tracking systems.
I've only had minor niggles with the compression switch (-z) and cvs.
I'm not sure if it's a SourceForge or SSH or CVS thing at either my or
their end.

Repository: no
But I do have several working copies on various hard drives for
convenience.
