This is indeed an error. The offending line of code does not appear in CVS
rev 1.2.4.3, nor in 1.3. Since 1.4 was intended only to be a merge of these
two previous revisions, I am at a loss to explain this.

Now fixed in CVS; thanks for pointing it out.

(I have not tested the build; perhaps you would let me know how you get on).
