Marking as read shouldn't involve RemoteNB at all at the moment as
that is something which Messenger tracks itself.

It really shouldn't freeze the machine as it uses non-blocking socket
calls. You may find that the next version will help somewhat though
as it allows client requests from Messenger to interupt scans for new
mail.

Not at the moment. This isn't really the IMAP way, although some other
clients do allow it. I believe Messenger does do this with MsgServe
doesn't it, so I guess it could be added for RemoteNB as wel if people
want.

Setting the group patterns for the server should limit which groups
are presented to you. If you mean that you want to further limit that
in Messenger when subscribing then that's something we're looking 
at, mainly to solve the problems with handling subscriptions to a
server carrying a full news feed.
